A question about holistic pet health care

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

I have a question. I’ve been reading on the internet about holistic health care for pets and some of the things I read sound ‘too good to be true’. Of course I want to do the best for my 2 dogs and 1 cat.

When I bring the subject up to the vet I’ve been going to for the past 4 years (and who I really like), he poo-poos any of my suggestions and makes me feel gullible for believing what I find on the internet.

I don’t want to change vets but I would like to try some of the alternatives to expensive vet care. Any suggestions on how to educate my vet?

Thank you,
Anne

Lame beagle needs help.

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

My beagle has been lame in his back leg for over a month. X-Rays showed very little. It could be some arthritis is his knee.  He is 6 1/2 yrs. old.

Dermaxx did not work so we now have Rimadyl and it seems a little improved after one week but no where near what I think is better.

Is acupuncture something we should try next?

Thank you.

4 y/o Corgi with slipped disc. Need help!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

My in laws have a 4 year old Corgi and she has been dragging her hind legs around for the past couple days. They took her to their vet and he said it could be a slipped disc but couldn’t be certain without an MRI.

He also said if it needs surgery, it would only give her a 33% chance of using her hind legs.

A fellow co-worker of mine breeds corgis and said he had experienced the same problem with one of his dogs. He took his dog to several vets and they all said the same as they told my in-laws. One of the specialists recommended Chiropractic care, so they went to a person in southern Connecticut and they performed some type of laser therapy and after four or five visits the dog could walk fine.

So we’re looking for any animal chiropractors in our area and also asking if there is anything else that can be done for our dog. The vet they took her to said that if she can’t be healed that she should be put down, due to the fact that my in-laws couldn’t afford the six thousand dollar bill.

We want to at least try the chiropractic procedures before we make such a drastic decision.

Thank you for any help you can give.

Can acupuncture and herbs help?

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

Our beagle has been diagnosed with Cervical and Thoracolumbar Disc Disease. He is suffering from some sort of paralysis, which is effecting his mid section down to his back legs. The doctor gave us three choices: surgery which only has an 80% chance of fully recovering, strict cage rest with use of anti-inflammatory medication, or putting him down. I was wondering if acupuncture and if any herbs could help him heal himself during his strict cage rest.

Thanks, Erica
