Helping pet owners get health help For their pets

Frontline plus reaction in dog. I need advice.

I administered Frontline plus to my dog (11 lbs) first treatment, three days ago, he has been to the vet twice with diarrea/vomitting, red spots.

The vomiting has stopped still has diarrhea and now he will not eat and just lays around tail down.

My dog was prescribed Metoclopramide 5mg w tablets twice daily and Amforol #3 1/2 tablet twice a day.

I really don’t know if I should give him more medicine, he has had so much already.

Do you have any other advice for me?

    Hi Karen,

Unfortunately, some dogs (and cats) have a bad reaction to one spot flea medication. We have several posts from other pet owners about this, so my suggestion is, while continuing to keep your dog’s current vet informed of your dogs condition, read the posts to see if there is advice there you find useful.

I would also let your vet know of your concern on overmedicating your dog. Most vets will be able to explain why your dog needs it (it will save his life is a good reason) or they will understand and tell you what else you can do without more medicine.

If you feel your dog needs care and you don’t feel your vet and you are working well together to solve your dog’s problem, then I’d suggest calling and speaking with other vets in your area to see if you can find one that you feel comfortable with.

    Our best wishes,

How is your pet doing now? General rule of thumb for vomiting and diarrhea is no to “feed it”. Meaning maybe fast him from a day. No food or water. Hope this helps in the future
