I place them on IV fluids to decrease the unwanted products. Stay on a veterinary diet designed for kidney insufficiency. There are also 2 medicines, Azodyl and Epikatin, that could be started to help the BUN and Creatinine stay low. Check with your vet on this as they know your pet and condition better. Also if the phosphorous level is high, they might start a phosphorour bunding medication.

You do not reverse chronic kidney failure. you manage it. diet, medications fluids and more should help.

Most common reason dogs get crystals of any kind is the diet, and sometimes the drinking water being high in hard minerals. The reason dogs what renal failure is for the same reasons, plus they don’t drink enough fluids.
Don’t feed dry food.
Feed fresh food: cooked or raw meats, with veggies and a little whole grain. See my Spring newsletter at http://www.drbasko.com
Which gives you some recipes that you could start with.
My clients NEVER have this problem because they are feeding either raw or cooked freshly made foods.
Pay now with time and energy, or pay later with a lot more money (for surgery, etc.) and energy.
There are herbs and medicinal mushrooms as well as antioxidants that will help improve kidney function. In old dogs and cats, there is no cure, but animals should live longer with these supplements. Find a wholistic veterinarian in your area that knows how to use this kind of therapy.
