Oily fur standing up my cat

This seems like a bizarre symptom, but I read it on a symptom list the other day and can’t remember what it was for. When I got back, my cat had developed this symptom. For at least 24 hours, the fur down her back is standing straight up as though there’s static electricity caught in it, though there’s not, and it’s very oily looking only in that area.

Any idea what this could be? I think I was going down a list of malabsorption illnesses at the time I found it, but I can’t remember clearly.

I know that diabetes can cause oily fur in cats. There are a variety of non-disease related reasons ranging from obesity resulting in them not being able to groom to flea allergies, but since this is happening to your cat, I would have to assume it’s a disease process. I once had a cat, Katy, who developed very oily fur. Her immune system was shot, but the vet never figured out why.
