Helping pet owners get health help For their pets

My rabbits ate food that had weevil larva in it. Will they be okay?

I have thrown out the food and found the source of the weevils, but I noticed some weevil larva in the food before I threw it out. Will my rabbits be alright, or could this cause some intestinal or other health problems? Please help. I’m worried. – Venus

Venus, I couldn’t find anything about weevil larva so you might want to call a vet and see what they have to say. Chances are there is no problems created for your rabbit at all, since they are used to eating plants that have insect larva on them, but it is always good to be careful and check with your vet.

No the rabbit will be okay:) but the larva is in all cheap bunny food I had to deal with this problem myself and I ethers out all the food and bought smaller bags of food that was a better brand. I put the food in a plastic bag and put it in the freezer(the bugs can’t get out) to freeze the food so the larva wouldn’t hatch. It worked for me. Just a suggestion but It won’t hurt the rabbit.
