Can I use cat ear mite treatment to kill the mites on the birds?

Wednesday, January 15th, 2014

I rescued these 3 birds and they all have mites. I need to know a very simple solution to kill the mites. Never had any birds with this problem before. Could I bathe them in dawn dish detergent like I do my cats and dog when they have fleas? Can I use cat ear mite treatment to kill the mites on the birds and can humans catch mites from parakeets?

Thanks,
Emily

Please help me with my parakeets

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Well I have 2 parakeets that my daddy just bought me and I have some health concerns about them.

When I got the first bird I opened the box and she flew out when her wings were clipped so she fell on her wing I guess and now she holds that wing away from her body and wont mess with it. Is her wing injured and how can I help? My second parakeet is good I just wonder about his toes. His toe nails are brownish kind of black and is there something wrong with that? Any answers are appreciated. Thanks!

How do you know when it’s time to give-up a pet?

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

I have two parakeets–one of them I’ve had for around four years, the other one I got about a year ago. Since we got the new one, my mother has gotten double pneumonia and had to go the hospital, and I’ve had bronchitis five times already. My doctor and the hospital said it’s most likely the birds. I try to keep the cage as clean as possible, and I’ve got an air purifier too. But I’m just so busy with school now and life.

I’m in my junior year in high school and I know I’ll be going away soon, another factor to consider. But I’m also centering my career around animals (I want to be an animal behaviorist) and I feel giving up pets I chose to take in would make me the biggest hypocrite in the world. How can i start a career with animals when I can’t even take care of them at home?
