Weekly News

Greetings! More recall news this week. Wal-Mart quietly pulls pet treats found to contain melamine after complaints by customers. Trouble is they kept this fact quiet for weeks while they performed tests on the products. Last week we reported Menu Food lost their biggest customer. Now there is news of a sale of one of their manufacturing plants to Mars, Inc., parent company of Whiskas and Pedigree and a former customer of Menu Foods. Hmmm.

This is a week for feline news. 3 stories, 2 on cat's memory and alzheimers and one on using a cat profiler's tricks to find your lost cat.

We also have some weird pet news about a breed of dog that has two noses (with photo) and our video of the week is a cat commercial that is clever and fun to watch.

Enjoy and have a great week!

Wal-Mart pulls made-in-China dog treats for testing PLUS Menu Foods sells Sioux City manufacturing plant to Mars, Inc.

In July, Wal-Mart quietly pulled two different pet treats that were manufactured in China because they received reports from some customers the treats made their pets ill. Big news? No. Wal-Mart sent the products out for testing and initial reports show traces of the familiar melamine....

In our second story Menu Foods decided to sell its North Sioux City production facility to Mars Inc., for $26.3 million.

The privately-held Mars, whose pet food division sells such brands as Whiskas and Pedigree, had been a key Menu Foods customer. But earlier this month, Mars severed its manufacturing agreement with Ontario, Canada-based Menu Foods.

Cat's Gone Crazy? No, Just Senile PLUS Feline Memories Found to be Fleeting

Two different articles regarding feline recall, and both are very interesting reading. In the first, studies find mental disorders associated with aging, including Alzheimer's, are far more common in domesticated cats than previously realized, with more than half of all cats over age 15 showing signs of senility.

In the second research was conducted to compare cats' working memory of their recent movements with their visual memories. The research revealed some interesting facts about feline memory.
