Weekly News

Greetings! IAfter a short 1 week vacation, we are back at work and busier than ever. We've spent part of the week reviewing the Pet Health survey results from our recent survey, and are in the process of implementing some new features for you. We will send out a separate email announcing the first of these features shortly, most likely over the weekend, so keep an eye out for it. We've also included an Email Tip for you at the end of this newsletter. This week we have a great, no-cost email spam filter review.

In this newsletter read about a new pet safety alert, evaluating whether a pet sitter is right for you and your pets, and the oldest living animal discovered. Our video is about a bird that can really sing the blues! Enjoy and have a great week!

Hartz Vitamin Care For Cats

This is a recall alert we received from Itchmo for Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats:

Hartz announced a recall on November 2 for a specific lot of Hartz Vitamin Care for cats because of salmonella concerns. Here is the release from their website: The Hartz Mountain Corporation is voluntarily recalling one specific lot of Hartz Vitamin Care for Cats due to concerns that one or more bottles within the lot may have been potentially contaminated with Salmonella. Hartz is fully cooperating with the US Food and Drug Administration in this voluntary recall.

Below is a link to the article on their site.

  • Help with constipated cat

I have a cat that is about 10 - 12 yrs old. She is in the early stages of kidney failure and has trouble with constipation. She currently takes a 5mg cisipride compound twice a day and 10cc of lactulose a day. She sometimes eats K-D cat food but some days she doesn't. I try to give her as much canned food as possible and milk to drink. She is still having constipation problems. Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance.

Email Tip

We are no strangers to receiving spam, in fact we regularly receive quite a bit. Our office uses Outlook 2003 and the built in spam filters worked pretty well, until recently. About a month ago we started getting up to 500 spam mails per day, and many were making it past the filters. I became desperate to find something better to use and I came across a nifty piece of software, Ella for spam.

One of the ways Outlook is able to filter out spam is by you creating 'Rules' for your email. Ella is different. It has a set of rules built in, then it 'teaches' itself what you consider spam. The software comes in a f*r*e*e version and a low-cost version. I am impressed with how well it works, and if spam is a problem for you, give it a try. "I had a pet emergency and went to your site to find a 24hour hospital. Not only did I find some nearby, but I also found your article on "How to tell if it is an emergency". Just a FYI to you, that was a big help. It let me know what to do.
