October 30, 2008 Tomorrow is Halloween and, if you are like most pet lovers with email, you've undoubtedly received several tips to keep your dog or cat safe.
I'd just like to remind you of two important ones to keep in mind:
Keep ALL candy, especially chocolates, away from your dogs and cats. Dogs are very sensitive to the chemicals found in chocolates and if he or she has consumed enough of it, death can occur.
If you suspect your pet has consumed chocolate, keep a close eye on him and if he begins to act ill, call the closest emergency veterinary center or poison control center.
Keep your pets safely secured for the evening. Although the ASPCA reports that cats are not at a higher risk during Halloween (there were reports in the past that some black cats were being harmed during this time of year), it's still a very good idea to keep pets locked in an inside room to avoid the chance of accidental escape on Halloween evening.
With that, we wish you and your pets an enjoyable end October and don't forget to turn back the clocks on Sunday.
