Below are\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aspca.org\/pet-care\/disaster-preparedness\/\" target=\"_blank\">some ideas from the ASPCA<\/a> for an emergency kit to keep on hand for your pet. Remember, food and medications need to be rotated out of your emergency kit every two months\u2014otherwise they may spoil or become useless.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A traveling bag,\u00a0crate or sturdy carrier, ideally one for each pet (Pet Grab-n-Go Crate)<\/li>\n<li>Pet first-aid kit\u00a0and guide book<\/li>\n<li>3-7 days&#8217; worth of canned (pop-top) or dry food<\/li>\n<li>Bottled water, at least 7 days&#8217; worth for each person and pet<\/li>\n<li>Disposable litter trays (aluminum roasting pans are perfect)<\/li>\n<li>Litter or paper toweling<\/li>\n<li>Liquid dish soap and disinfectant<\/li>\n<li>Disposable garbage bags for clean-up<\/li>\n<li>Pet feeding dishes<\/li>\n<li>Extra\u00a0harness and leash (harnesses are recommended for safety and security)<\/li>\n<li>Photocopies of medical records and a waterproof container with a two-week supply of any medicine your pet requires<\/li>\n<li>Flashlight<\/li>\n<li>Blanket (for scooping up a fearful pet)<\/li>\n<li>Recent photos of your pets (in case you are separated and need to make &#8220;Lost&#8221; posters)<\/li>\n<li>Your pet\u2019s favorite toy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\" style=\"margin-top: 10px; height: 15px;\"><a class=\"zemanta-pixie-a\" title=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zemanta.com\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-pixie-img\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/img.zemanta.com\/zemified_e.png?x-id=f5d52dea-16ef-4498-9be7-72ee3da0e818\" alt=\"Enhanced by Zemanta\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Recent natural disasters happening around the world highlight the need to have emergency procedures in place for our own families.
