{"id":712,"date":"2011-02-13T19:25:27","date_gmt":"2011-02-14T02:25:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vetlocator.com\/dailypaws\/?p=712"},"modified":"2011-03-01T05:28:20","modified_gmt":"2011-03-01T12:28:20","slug":"what-would-you-do-if-your-pet-died-during-a-routine-vet-visit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vetlocator.com\/dailypaws\/2011\/02\/what-would-you-do-if-your-pet-died-during-a-routine-vet-visit\/","title":{"rendered":"What would you do if your pet died during a routine vet visit?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"zemanta-pixie\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vetlocator.com\/dailypaws\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/petdog.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-714\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" title=\"petdog\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vetlocator.com\/dailypaws\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/petdog.jpg\" alt=\"Dog dies during routine vet visit\" width=\"192\" height=\"144\" \/><\/a>I&#8217;m sorry to even write such a thing, especially because it&#8217;s my opinion that the vast &#8211; read that to mean just about all &#8211; majority of doctors and staff at a veterinary hospital, do what they do because of care and concern for pets.<\/p>\n<p>But that&#8217;s just what happened to a woman recently who took her dog in for routine teeth cleaning only to receive a call later that day that the unthinkable had happened&#8230;her dog had died.\u00a0 Somehow the oxygen used during sedation was hooked up incorrectly by a technician&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>The hospital is one with a good reputation and they&#8217;ve been in business for many years.\u00a0 In fact the veterinarian and the hospital owner don&#8217;t have one complaint against them on their record.<\/p>\n<p>However the woman was devastated.\u00a0 She still cries when she speaks of her lost dog, even though she now shares her life with a new puppy.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what the hospital did after the tragedy:<br \/>\n1.\u00a0 They (obviously) did not charge the woman.<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 They paid for the cost of a new dog.<br \/>\n3.\u00a0 They issued an apology both to her and publically.<br \/>\n4.\u00a0 They developed new guidelines so no future animal<br \/>\nsuffers the same fate for this procedure.<\/p>\n<p>So here are my questions to you:<br \/>\n1.\u00a0 Did the hospital do enough?<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 In cases such as this, do you think there should be any State\/legal involvement?<br \/>\n3.\u00a0 Is there more you&#8217;d like to see published on incidents such as these?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don&#8217;t get into the field for anything other than our love for animals, but at the end of the day, we are human and things go wrong.
