If you’re like me, you’ve probably recorded or had someone record a voicemail greeting for your office, home phone or cell phone.<\/p>\n

And, if you’re like me, you usually will record the same message more than once because it does not sound perfect.\u00a0 Here are some tips to getting that perfect message in fewer takes:<\/p>\n

  1. Start with a written script for your message.\u00a0 If you need inspiration, you can check out these sample scripts<\/a> and just modify them to fit your need.<\/li>\n
  2. Encourage callers to leave a detailed message as part of your script.\u00a0 Playing phone tag is never fun and one way to avoid it is receiving and leaving detailed messages for people.<\/li>\n
  3. Next practice reading your script.\u00a0 Read it aloud at least three times before you record it to smooth out bumps.\u00a0 Doing this allows you to hear the words and spot any awkward spots that need to be fixed.<\/li>\n
  4. A problem that some people have when they record their message is running out of breath before they’re done reading the script.\u00a0 A way to help alleviate this is before recording, take a deep breath as if you are about to leap in the water, and when your recording begins, you’ll have enough breath to carry you through to the end.<\/li>\n
  5. Finally, listen to your message to make sure it’s all good, then SAVE.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
