Celebrate: Giving thanks to those who share our lives
Wednesday, November 24th, 2010This morning I got up a few minutes later than normal and walked slowly downstairs to be greeted by 3 sets of anxious eyes and dancing paws.
I was LATE FOR BREAKFAST.
I’ll bet you’ve had similar scenes in your house too.
And as I began the morning ritual of gathering up the food bowls and preparing the morning special pet food mix, the dancing and love flinging in my direction intensified to a fever pitch.
It’s nice to be adored 🙂
I know my pets give thanks each and every time I feed them, and for each moment I take time from my busy schedule to spend just with them, and for sharing my life with me. And you know what? I feel exactly the same about them. I give thanks to them each day, for giving me such pleasure in their company, and such love. They remind me to be real because that is what they understand most. I thank them for that.
And I have much more beyond sharing my life with my pets. I give thanks to the wonderful veterinarians that fill the directories we share with you. I’ve learned from these dedicated folks that being a veterinarian takes a special kind of person, someone who starts out with a love and need to help animals and matches it with a desire to heal. To generalize a bit, as a group, these are some of the nicest, most caring folks I’ve ever met, and I’m thankful for them.
I give thanks for being part of a great team at VetLocator.com. It’s a pleasure to work here.
And I give thanks to you as well. And I know your pets do too.
In our Daily Paws newsletter, I mentioned the video I created showcasing our Thanksgiving Pet Pictures. I created it using Animoto, a super simple online system that has a basic free account you can use to create videos from your photos or video clips and your favorite music. Animoto will also host your video on their site and will even upload your video to a YouTube or Smugmug account if you have one.
I uploaded the video to my personal YouTube account and then watched both videos side by side to see which service was better. I decided I liked the one hosted on Animoto the best because there is no bar at the bottom so it is actually a bigger image. Very nice.
Below you can see the video I created and at the bottom of the video is the logo which links to Animoto so you can make your very own videos if you want to.
Enjoy!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Give your pet a voice, literally!
Tuesday, October 12th, 2010This is Nemo, one of our VetLocator office mascots whose job it is to brighten our days, be our spokes cat and keep the place free of any and all creepie crawlies.
He fulfills his duties faithfully and in exchange we keep his food bowl filled twice a day, keep him healthy, and he gets lots and lots of attention and love.
But there are some days when he fixes us with his big yellow cat eyes and I know he is trying to talk, to tell us what’s on his mind at that particular moment.
Does that ever happen with your animals?
Help them out by giving them a voice.
Just click this link to hear what Nemo had to say when we gave him a voice (and we got to choose what we thought he’d sound like too) and then follow the instructions to give your pets a chance to say what’s on their mind!
Our new Facebook page
Friday, September 24th, 2010VetLocator and Daily Paws have had Facebook Fan pages for awhile but we’ve just begun using them in earnest.
Here is our new mascot who made his debut on our Fan Page. What do you think?
Evangers Pet Food’s shocking theft
Sunday, March 28th, 2010When business loses focus on producing a great product and, instead on cheating ways to get money that’s just bad.
And once started it’s common to hear about the original cheat (in cheating situations someone will usually talk) and then subsequent stories about more cheating begin to surface.
And that’s the situation with Evangers, the disgraced Natural pet food company that was ordered to stop shipping product last year by the FDA because of violations in how they processed their natural pet food. In the FDA situation several pet owners reported their pets becoming very ill after eating Evangers’ pet food.
Now comes more Evangers news, but this time they are accused of stealing utilities….
to the tune of MILLIONS of dollars.
I read the following story in amazement at the audacity of the company. First at how they went about doing it and second that they thought no one would report it.
It’s a pretty outrageous theft on a huge scale and it is being reported by several news outlets:
(story excerpt from the Chicago Sun Times story by RUMMANA HUSSAIN Criminal Courts Reporter)
“The husband and wife owners of a premium dog and cat food company that was once featured on the Food Network swiped natural gas service and electric power in an elaborate scheme that left Nicor and ComEd $1.7 million in the hole, Cook County prosecutors said today.
Joel and Holly Sher toyed with their gas meter to prevent it from recording how much gas they actually used and also constructed a separate underground pipe to divert the flow of gas before it reached the meter at their Wheeling-based Evanger’s Dog & Cat Food Company, Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Podlasek said.
To cover their tracks, the Lincolnwood couple allegedly inserted a two-way valve so the gas flow could be re-directed when Nicor officials performed inspections.
The Shers also illegally hooked up high voltage wiring to ComEd power lines and connected it to their manufacturing plant’s electrical supply system, Podlasek said.
Often, the couple would enlist their employees to help with the scam, supplying them with a tool to help rollback gas meters, Podlasek said.
One worker said Joel Sher directed him to use a jackhammer to dig through concrete and asphalt to divert the gas line, Podlasek said.
That same worker said Joel Sher asked him to ride up on a forklift to remove illegal wires and fuses prior to a ComEd inspection, according to the complaint.”
The utilities companies estimate that they’ve lost approximately 1.8 million dollars worth of natural gas and electricity. State attorney investigators have seized 2.3 million from the couple in recent days as part of the probe.
The rest of the story is worth reading too, (especially the part about a judge letting the Shers leave the state to attend a trade show) and you can read it here.
